Only a century-old, Raj Ranchhodji Mandir of Jodhpur is one of the most visited Krishna temples in the Indian subcontinent. Dating back to its establishment in 1905, the temple was named Ranchhod after the other name lovingly used to refer to Lord Krishna. The history behind the creation of this temple dates back to the time of the accidental demise of the glorious ruler of Marwar, Maharaja Jaswant Singh.
After his death, Maharani Jaduchi Rajnagar, the king’s beloved wife, decided to construct a magnificent temple. Inside it, she religiously placed an idol of Lord Krishna which she had brought along with her at the time of her marriage. Carved out of black marble, the idol is heavily adorned with fine garments and is offered scented flowers by pilgrims paying their obeisance to the lord. Constructed out of red stone, the temple walls are lined with intricate carvings and ornamental filigree stonework. Stained with vibrant colours, the beautiful translucent windows of the entrance door are the highlight of the temple’s radiant facade.
